16 russian reactors dumped in Kara Sea

The enormous quantities of radioactive waste were dumped into the Arctic Ocean north of Siberia over a course of the Cold War decades are just now being revealed. Among the waste, charted by Norwegian NGO Bellona, is a K27 Nuclear sub, sunk by the Russians with reactors intact and full of spent nuclear fuel. The sub shows no leaks, but presents the possibility of a chain reaction explosion.

According to both Russian and Norwegian 2012 reports, the extent of the radioactive waste is far greater than previously thought.
