Golden Toad Gone For Good

Last Golden Toad Seen In 1989

CAFO lagoonsWhether you call it the Monteverde Toad or the orange toad, this former denizen of the Costa Rican rain forest is missing and presumed extinct

The Golden Toad was once a common species in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve in Costa Rica. The little guys were officially declared extinct in 2007. Amphibian disease chytridiomycosis, airborne pollution and global warming contributed to the premature expiration of the species.
