Iran is now seven years into a mega-drought that shows no signs of ending. As water sources disappear, the Persians face a long term water nightmare as the country continues to deplete its groundwater. According to the New York Times, 70% of Iran’s groundwater has been sucked up in the past 50 years. As lakes and rivers disappear, the prospects for any type of farming are grim.
