Henderson Island Plastic Pollution Nightmare

Halfway between New Zealand and South America is Henderson Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has become amazingly polluted by plastic debris from around the world. The toxic crap accumulates at a rate of 3,500 items each day, making Henderson the site of the planet’s highest density of plastic waste.

Eight million tons of plastic trash ends up in the ocean each year, where it requires thousands of years to break down. In the process, it poisons marine wildlife and disrupts the food chain.
